SMT Placement
PCM utilizes the 3S series of SMT placement machines, which represent a unique combination of performance and value for our customers. The contact 3AVX places a full range of component types from small chip resistors and capacitors, to large, leaded integrated circuits, including ultra fine pitch devices and BGA's. It features AccuVision, a vision and positioning system with the extreme accuracy required for ultra fine pitch placements. The AccuVision system consists of telecentric video lenses and high speed DC servos with a combination of linear and rotary encoders.
PCM employs the Contact Feeder Cart system which consists of a cart and a removable feeder bank. This allows our operators to pre-kit the next job while the machine is running, and change jobs in about two minutes. The cart system retains all the benefits of individual feeders while allowing the fastest job changeover possible. This process allows PCM to deliver quality products to our customers on time.

Vision centering has been proven to be the only method capable of handling
the full compliment of surface mount devices available in the industry.
Each placement head on our 3X moves in a straight line between the feeder bank and the board, passing directly over its camera. A picture is taken "on the fly" without slowing down the head. Since the components are not precisely located in their tape or tray pockets, the vision system determines their exact locations on the tool tips. |

Strobe backlighting on our systems produce a sharp black on white image regardless of lead plating, body shape, or color. Components are centered via their leads - not their bodies - resulting in superior placement accuracy.
